Kyanite commonly forms as blades on top of a quartz matrix. It is an aluminum silicate mineral with a nice sheen. This kyanite specimen has many blades growing together in the same direction over a quartz matrix. The shape almost resembles a space ship. The quartz matrix is clearly visible, allowing you to see how the kyanite blades grew on the quartz. It has a fibrous, bladed structure, with variations to the depth of the blues. Some of the blades shine as well in the light.
